They were different in different years. I have several handles from the 41 & 45 (they both had a mixed set of the wrong ones when I bought them). What year and model do you have and I will see if any of mine are the same and send pictures.

Hank, I have a '46 BC-12D . No handles on either door. I would love to be able to lock the doors, but would like something that looks like it belongs there. Hopefullu a picture below. And hopefully you can make it out. I am lesving for S & F in the morning. I will have my Laptop, and cell phone so I can be reached. either way. Cell no is 337-658-0997

If you aren't interested in keeping it original and just want something that "looks right" I have a set of Triumph GT-6+ rear hatch handles on the 41 right now and they came with locks in them that worked great and look period (streamline bullets). I had to grind the shafts to not modify the door but it was an easy job. I am pretty sure the post wars doors used a completely different door latch (the 45 had really nice tear drop handles but no locks. I have one original passenger door handle for the 41 but until I find a locking one for the pilot side I plan to keep the car handles that are on it now (they match).
By the way, when I bought the 41 it had two garage door "T" handles that must have weighed 3# each and were really BUTT UGLY but fit with the paint job really well. There are a few other post war planes around here and I will check their handles out next time the weather breaks (should be back to you sometime in the next decade). ;-)

Hank,
If you are going to be down at the gathering in La Grange, take
a look at my doors please. The handles on my 1940 BC-65 both have the oddest looking piece of metal flat-stock that is bent so that one side goes into a slot that was formed by a fuselage tube on one side, and another piece of flat-stock that was wealded to said tube on the othed side. It hangs up on the fuselage tubes when you try to open the door if you rotate the lever too far. I
want to replace it with something else, but I want to check with you guys first. See you at La Grange. Sabrina
Your door latches might be standard. Your description of them sounds just like the ones on my '39's. They can also keep the windows from opening when the door is open. Howard
If the end to the back on the inside is flat and it has a curve in the side in front of the hole that is the normal one for the inside on a non-Deluxe (at least in 45). It was held by an acorn nut to a square shaft to the outside handle. It's the outside handles that seemed so different from year to year. I talked to an old timmer that worked at the factory before WW-II and he said there was a Studabaker plant not far away and a lot of parts came from there. I can attest that the old Taylorcraft trim handles are exactly the same as a Studebaker window winder and some of the knobs and trim pieces are the same as well as the big pre war Tach. I always hoped one of the old Studebakers would have the same exterior handles I needed for my 41 but so far no luck. The inside handles on the pre war Deluxe were cast and a little fancier but the flat ones I described are what was on my 45 even though it had fancy outside handles.

Does this look like the inside door latch you are talking about? This is the door from Rosco Turners Taylorcraft (Pre War). Yea, I know, I have pictures of some pretty weird stuff.
Hank (got a shot of his battery box too)J
Hank,
The photo of the inside door latch that you posted is exactly what I have on the indide of my doors. My out side handles are different from the two in the other photo, they are shorter, and have a set of ribs that run down the length of the handle. Thanks
guys, you came through again. Sabrina
I have seen several Taylorcrafts with the shorter ribbed outside handle and the bent steel "flat" like I posted. I think you probably have the originals on yours.
