    Re: Good brakes

There is something wrong I used an 3-4 bolts and they threaded into the holes on the gear groves print uses an 4 bolts and nuts so he must have drilled the holes in the gear to fit the bolts.this was a change from when he and i talked and i did my brakes. The mounting flange is thin and drilling the holes will make it thinner. Also Tim has one more print that I don't have.Looked at Garys 337 and he used AN 3 bolts also.I think Robbie and talked about this and he used the wrong size on the drawings.

      Re: Good brakes

The stock Scott master units work but can require periodic inspection and maintenance. The diaphragms stretch over time with hard use and the unit can loose working effectiveness. In the cold they can get stiff I assume due to the rubber's characteristics. Just an observation from several planes I had that used them.

But in reality with a light plane like the Taylorcraft brakes are more of a drag device than a stopper as may be needed in heavier aircraft. I over-applied brakes once on a wheel-ski equipped C-185 during a wheel landing and turned the right tire on dry pavement. That sheared the valve stem and of course deflated the tire. The retracted Fluidyne 3600 ski held us up and prevented a loop-de-loop. My punishment was to ride the plane back to the hangar in reverse with the skis down while being towed by a tug. Not many pilots get to see where they've been from the cockpit.

Grove is preparing a quote for me for their brake kit. They suggested their middle size that would allow 800x6 or small tundra tires should ever I desire that. Hank suggested I check with you to see what setup you have. Thanks.
