  • BL-65 wood kit and paint color

I am starting to restore a plane that was disassembled 50 years ago, all the wood is gone in the fuselage, are there any drawings for the wood pieces also what color was the fuselage, gear legs and engine mount from the factory.

    Thanks,
    Brian

Re: BL-65 wood kit and paint color

    Hi Brian,

    Welcome to the forum!
Do a search (upper right hand corner) on "1939 paint colors" several good threads on this.
Don't have a source for the wood drawings, but somebody will be along soon with a lead.
Look in the Taylorcraft.org gallery for some pics of projects in the precover state. I have a few internal shots of my '39 BL.
    Regards,
    Howard

I restored a 1941 BL-65 that was a Oshkosh grand champion antique in 1994. It was a metallic blue with yellow stripe on the fuselage, and silver wings. If you can fins a October 1994 issue of Vintage Airplane there is a nice write up along with pictures. The color was matched from original paint on the airplane and verified by people who flew the airplane when it was new.
