  • Trim tab reversed?

I think that I must have run my trim tab cable incorrectly.
    See the pictures attached.
With the indicator in the middle, the trim tab is in the middle.
But when the indicator moves towards "UP", the trim tabs moves to the position shown. But that can't be right, can it? The trim tab should deflect downward for up trim, right?
I must have routed the cable incorrectly.
Has anyone else had this dilemma?

I think you diagnosed it right. You have a wire crossed somewhere. Tab up, nose down, tab down, nose up.

Yep probably between the two rear cable guides & the trim pulley itself, it can be a little confusing right there!

Maybe not. If the cables are crossed they will eventually start wearing through the strands. ;-)

taking the rear pulley as the reference then the lower cable should travel up the left side of the airplane and go to the left side of the front pulley

well that how mine looks and it works fine

              Thanks, Dave.
That confirms that I ran mine backwards. You might be able to see in the picture of my framework above that the strand that is coming off of the top of the rear pulley is running up the left side of the airplane.

Now, how do I fix this? Has anybody replaced trim cable with the fabric on the airplane?

                Yes, I have.

Get another cable or good string and tape it to the end of the existing cable in a butt joint fashion so that when you pull the old one out the new one replaces it.

But you do not want to precisely replace the old one so use the technique to undo wrong portion of your installation.

I think you can make that work. I may have it backwards, you may want to only replace the good portion of your installation.

                Dave

p.s. warning! warning! memory lapse occurred above! on second thought I recall having issues and then using electrical tape to tape a string to the side of the cable and used some overlap instead of the butt joint. My bad, it was 1998 a while ago and it comes back slowly sometimes.

I'll give it a try. Thanks.
