Aileron control link, they have different part numbers, what is the differance?

I put my wings on this last weekend to check things out, before I cover the fuselage. The ailerons do not go up and down the same amount. Both aileron links are the same length. The right side bellcrank is centered and the aileron is centered. The left bellcrank when centered does not center the aileron. Any ideas?:

Hi Jerry,

Couple of questions for you so that I can understand what's going on.

1) can you elaborate on what this means? The ailerons do not go up and down the same amount. Do you mean that the up travel and down travel are different or are you saying that the left travel is different from the right travel?

2) What model airplane is this and what travel does its TCDS specify?

3) If you put the left aileron in neutral (trailing edge lined up with wing trailing edge) how does the right aileron sit? Also how do the control wheels look? Do the control wheels look centered?

4) If the control wheels are not centered in #3 then put the right aileron in neutral and see if the wheels are centered. Hopefully one of these scenarios will result in centered wheels and you can use that at a starting point and adjust the aileron cable to put the other aileron in neutral. If not then you have to center the wheels then adjust the aileron cables to put both ailerons in neutral.

I suspect that you have a cable adjustment problem and need to adjust the balance and tension cables to the ailerons.

The aft aileron cable will lower the both aileron trailing edges when you tighten the turnbuckle. The forward aileron cables will raise the aileron trailing edge of the aileron on the side of that turnbuckle. I say this assuming that the control wheel is being held in neutral.

[The left sproket has the stops at the top, both control wheel's are centered and the aileron's are centered. The right ail. goes up 4 in. and down 6 in. The left goes up 6in. and down 4 in. The right wing belcrank is centered with the aileron. The left belcrank is not centered when the aileron is.

The links should be the same length. The holes are different between the two links. When the Left belcrank is centered is the aileron to high or low?

The left aileron is high when the belcrank is centered. This wing was built up from a pile of used parts, can the bellcrank be in wrong.

Take a look and see if both the screw plugs are flush with the end of the link. If they are screwed in farther than the end of the link you have something missing inside the link.

I have never differentiated them by length however they are different by orientation. What I mean is that a left will not work on the right side because the hole is in the wrong side of the tube for the aileron to connect to.

Had both links apart and cleanned and lubercated them and adjusted them, all screws were flush and cotter pins installed.

With what you described it sounds like you are missing part of the spacer inside the link.

I just looked through my spare parts boxes looking for the ones that had aileron stuff in them.

The bellcranks are identical left and right. the center hinges with the bellcranks are different left to right.

The link has internal parts, end nuts (2), female ball sockets (4), internal sleeve/tube (1).

Are your bellcranks identical left and right?

also look at the center hinges on the aileron, are they mounted the same way on each side?
