  • Add left Wing Tank?

Can anyone give me information and guidelines for adding a wing tank in a covered left wing? I would like to accomplish this in the most efficient way with the least down time, so I need to know what to expect before the work begins. I do have an aluminum tank to install. I would appreciate any advice that you can give me.
    Thanks,
    Charles

Hello Charles, and welcome to the Forum.

I had a problem a few years ago that required the removal of the right tank and replacement with another one.

My blog for this is here, if that is any help?

If you go to this page http://taylorcraft.org/resources.html#337_STC_data and scroll down to "WINGS", there may be some info there you can use. Also I can tell you from experience, the problem I had was turning the little nuts near the ends of the drag wires. I ended up fabricating my own spoke wrench. If you want to minimize down time, you want to have the correct wrench beforehand. I used a piece of 3/16" plate steel to make a triangular shaped wrench. Using a regular wrench takes up so much room that you can't get very much of a turn on the nut. Or you could try to find the correct size spoke wrench at a bike shop. I couldn't find any nearby at the time I did mine.

I used a bicycle spoke wrench that I had laying around my house. This wrench works with 8 different size spokes.
For my drag/antidrag wires, I found that 10-gauge (or whatever the 10 on the wrench means) was the right size for my prewar (13 -rib, built-up rib) wings
