  • Build Plans?

Hi Guys... Please get used to seeing me here on here as I took over the job of heading up a "reassemble" of a Tcraft, that I believe is a BCD, but we are trying to nail that down as soon as I get the old logs...

Here is the skinny... our EAA chapter (585) was given a Tcraft and all the parts, well most of them, little work has been done to it in a few years, so me, being the newest member of the club wanted to get my name on the map and volunteered to head this up... here is the problem, I don't have any plans for it... cant seem to find any... and the boys at the chapter say we can just build it based on a wing that someone is letting us borrow as a model... If anyone has a direction for me to go in, please let me know, please and thank you... This Monday I am sending out the application to join the Foundation, as I am sure that will be a wealth of information. I have read a lot here and I KNOW that this is going to be a help from above, so thanks in advance. My goal is to fly it to Oshkosh in 09', thats a pretty aggressive goal, but I think that none the less it is achievable.

    Clear skies, and tailwinds all!

      Re: Build Plans?

There aren't any real "plans" for rebuilding a Taylorcraft, but this is a great opportunity to make a set. If you have any pictures of the pieces, the guys on this group will be able to tie down exactly what year and model you have. First step is to look under the fuselage door hinge tabs for a serial number (sometimes also stamped into the back of the metal plate that holds all the controls in the center bottom of the instrument panel support tube. If you have the SN and "N" number, that is even better.
Get us some pictures of the current state of your project and start posting. You will get more help than you can keep up with including the bad paths NOT to take and all the traps that are so easy to fall in to on a project. This is also a GREAT source for all those hard to find parts.
LOVE seeing another great Taylorcraft rising from the dead! What a great chapter project. Wish mine would do one.

        Re: Build Plans?

Eric, I would love to come out there and see what you have going on, any help will be greatly appreciated, like I said, I am relying on a few fellas in particular in the chapter to help be the "backbone" of the rebuild, the have been involved in alot of builds but backed out due to the unorganization of it all, so I am the organizer to make sure that all things get done right, however I have never done this, and thats what the EAA is all about. So post back or email me at [email protected], and let me know when you are at your hanger so we can get together and check 'er out.

            Hank
Thanks a ton! I have many digital pics of everything we have. As for the fuselage, I will look this week, but I am not sure that there is any stamps or plates on it, we had to do a lot of refitting the tubing, welding, blasting, and we are just about ready to prime ant paint the Fuse...where exactly do I post these pics, is there a different thread I should put them on, I dont want to post in the wrong catagory, that may not get the responses I need. Thanks again Hank, if there is something you think of that you think is imperitive that I know, please email me at [email protected]
            Thanks again

Thanks Forrest, you will be hearing from me plenty, and I will fly our Tcraft there personally to get you approval when we are done with it!

had the big meeting of the Board of the Foundation here at the fly-in ; we are having issues with liability. The factory should be doing this stuff. i ahve the individual meetings set up with the FAA at OSH , more at the forumn up there.

                    Re: Build Plans?

I don't think we need all of the drawings for the wings. Just a set to allow us project people to re=assemble a wing to the drawings. Maybe a set of spar drawings too.

The complete set of drawings for the L-2 are available on CD. The L-2 is a tandam seat, military Taylorcraft from WWII. Many parts are identical to the BC12-D.

                            About the drawings online;

you can of course down load them. The idea is you would only download the ones you need. You can do our server a big favor and send in a check for a copy of the CDs and save yourself a lot of time...

Someone in Brazil decided to download them 100s of times last year.
