  • Tail Feather Stitching

Basically 43.13.1a uses 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 spacing and I think I understand that usually more is good and less is not so , I'm not sure if my old fabric is factory original but it has what looks to be a 5" spacing on the stitching of the tail feathers and looks like they were individually tied knots. I would like to keep to what the factory originally did so if anyone can confirm if my spacing and knots are correct I would be able to continue with confidence that I'm keeping to the factory specifications .
Any and all input as to the factories specs would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

According to AC 43.13 1A the spacing for the empennage, if the factory spacing is not known you can use up to two times the spacing for the slipstream. Since the slipstream spacing is 2 1/2" you can use up to 5" spacing on the tail.

      Thank you 3 Dreaming,
Yes I did happen to read about that as an excepted way to accomplish my task and this is how my old fabric shows to have been done so I think I will do the same.
I'm thinking the individual knot should maybe be a square knot backed up with a half hitch on both sides ?

I just did a horizontal. I did a regular modified seine knot with lacing between stitches. I ran the lacing inside. You can do individual stitches if you want like you said, a square knot whit half hitches on both sides.

Thank you for the reassuring answers to my questions , for it's always good to be able to go to others who have knowledge and the experience that gives us peace of mind.
now it's on to stitching and to being one more step closer to flying.
