  • Wing covering - span-wise tape

I am covering a wing and I am unsure if I need to put a span-wise tape on the bottom of the wing, where the leading edge end.
The leading edge is new, it is covered with poly-fiber felt that extend 1/2" past the leading edge.

    Thanks

I have not put a spanwise tape in that location or even on the top.

I did put a span-wise tape on the bottom and top primarily to give a good cover to the forward ends of the rib tapes.
On the other hand, Dave has covered a lot more wings than I have...

I do on a "working" airplane, such as a spray plane or float plane, but usually don't on the others. It sure wont hurt anything, and an old buddy used to tell me that when in doubt, tape it!

But if you do tape it make sure it stays down tight or it will become a good spoiler. Occasionally a tape does come loose.

Really? I've never heard of one coming loose,

I have repaired three planes with tape peeling up, including the tapes on the rudder of a B-17. It can happen. Just saying...

Sounds like a good item to put on my annual inspection checklist.
