I found the VG's help on floats when rotating off the water...no mush providing T/O speed is >45 for me. Same for landing if large tires allow a larger AOA, but on floats with a flatter AOA they don't do much unless there's a wind gust that changes the relative wind, then they can cushion the arrival.
