    Re: Undercarriage Bumper Rubbers

    Rob,

I don't know which model Auster they were for but they have fitted my F22A just fine and seem to be doing the job fine and certainly better than what was there before? needless to say we are keeping a good eye on them for the time being.

      Re: Undercarriage Bumper Rubbers

      Rob,

I think I missed the second part concerning the correct Shock cords for the F22A I emailed univair and they responded that they were unable to say if the 9010HDX was certified for use on the F22A however they did say that the outside dia for the cords was 0.5625 and 10 inches inside dia. The test load is 700lbs. Anyway I have gone ahead an ordered a set and will take it from there when they arrive. My engineer is saying not to change the ones supplied by LAS and he is backed up by the BA engineer who is flying the plane in my hopefully temporary absence as he says the plane is landing fine and the undercarriage is working as it should, but I have some personal reservations hence ordering the cords from Univair. It does however beg the question what are the correct Shock cords for the F22A as they don't seem to be listed anywhere? I guess the answer lies across the Pond in the States as surely there must be a F22A owner over there who has changed them at some stage?

It was remiss of me to mention my lack of detail on the bumper rubbers being due to the Guy who sells the Auster spares is a somewhat unusual individual ( I was warned in advance by a licensed engineer who put me in touch with him!) and when I rang him to place the order for the bumper rubbers I asked him what model of Auster they fitted and he imeadiately took my interest as being critical in some way and the call nearly came to an abrupt halt! All he would say was that the ones he was supplying would fit my aircraft which seems to be the case! He was my last hope of obtaining any so I did not press the point further!

Just back from a rather wet IAT at Fairford (spent a week up there in my caravan Plane spotting the arrivals! sad person I know! ) The Vulcan did a superb display but the numbers of aircraft were well down on previous years but there was plenty of big and fast noisy stuff from the USA.

I've asked the question here...still waiting for an authoritative reply.

            Rob / Forrest,

Thanks I will try Univair again as they were out of stock on the others anyway.

              Hi,

According to Forrest the correct part number for the F22A shock cords is 1110 ( 11/16" by 10" around ) Following a further suggestion from a forum member I contacted SBC Industries of Scottsboro, Alabama 35768 - David Valentine dealing who was very helpful and have ordered up a set (not cheap at $28.95 each plus carriage and wire charge!) but hopefully the problem is on it's way to being finally sorted.
              Thanks to all who contributed.

                Hi,

Passed my skills test yesterday and back flying solo today 6 months to the day that I suffered a stroke and boy did it feel good (todays flight I mean! ) flying is marvelous therapy and prevents you sitting at home feeling sorry for yourself and saying "why me!"

Since the stroke which affected my speech which I lost totally to begin with I had flown 20 hours with an instructor to keep up to speed and the speech therapy which I had at the hospital over the months has all been based on UK flying Radio Terminology which worked wonders, although the therapist struggled with it! My speech is still slow but I have no problems conversing with ATC units including larger commercial airports.

My lady Doctor was very supportive and signed me off to fly with little difficulty but the UK CAA and the National Private Pilots Licensing system proved more difficult in typical UK Civil Servant style!

My advice to anyone is if you have the misfortune to suffer a major medical trauma keep flying in some capacity even with an Instructor to remain legal or at the very least "keep involved" at your airport as it works wonders for your recovery! we are very priviliged IMHO to have the ability to fill our days with these interests, many are not so fortunate.

                    Hi,

Thanks for the interest but the ones I have fitted seem to be fine at the moment but I will take a closer look at the advert and see if they will fit my aircraft.

Congragulatons on getting back into the air on your own. I have had several students have a stroke and its bee 6 months until they can start the process to get their medical back.
