Over the years I fabbed my own tail ski design that has worked well for me. I use 1/4 inch Ultra High Molecular Weight (UHMW) teflon for both the ski and the base. It is easily formed using a vise and angle iron coupled with light propane heat on the tension side of any bend to retain the materials memory of the bend. The attachments are 3/16 inch aluminum plate sized and bent for rigidity. A fellow pilot wondered about the skis potential for cracking so I deliberately threw the tail ski as high as I could in -30F temperature and watched it land on the ice-covered blacktop at the airport with no damage! The design easily floats an 80lb tail weight in over a foot of snow, yet if necessary assisted in an adequate stop with the stick full back. Interesting note is that it never stuck to the snow or ice with the black color, or any snow stuck to it after takeoff.
