I have a chance to purchase a "straight" F21. Can the "Gross Weight" of the F21 be increased from 1500 to 1750# easily. The concern is the small fuel tanks of 24 gallons limiting range, and taking up most of the allowable useful load because of the heavier 0-235 engine. I found out the max baggage capacity on the F21 is 72#. Would strengthening the baggage compartment area, to allow for more weight (200# max), allow one to apply for an increase in Gross Weight? And, does the F21 fly as well as the F19? Thanks to anyone that can help. Kaiser

Re: Question regarding F21 (NOT A or B model)
I have an F21 and it flies very well on floats, wheels, skis. The fuel capacity is a minor problem but there is the ability to add two more 6 gallon tanks. See tech section. The plane will pick up quite a bit and would easily handle 1750# but not legally. On floats two 225# people, 24 gals. in the tanks, 15 gals in the float lockers, a few pounds on baggage - off the water in 6-8 seconds.

Bananza91k, thanks for the reply! You answered the capability part, and I will continue to pursue the legal issue of how to obtain the higher gross weight. BTW, what is your normal fuel burn and airspeed with wheels or skis? And, are your present tanks 4 - 6gal wing tanks or 2 - 12gal tanks (I am given to understand that the F21 does not have a "Header" tank)?

Re: Question regarding F21 (NOT A or B model)
My 1982 F21 will cruse about 125-130 all day long out running all 152's! I count on 6GPH and I have never traveled more than 150 miles in it. It climbs like a monkey and is lots of FUN.
I tried to get the "wonderful folks" in south TX to help me get a gross weight from 1500 to 1750 about 10 yrs. ago but they had more excuses than a politician in DC as to why I can't even though 2 serial #'s after mine it changed to a F21A. From all I can tell everything but the paperwork is the same??? I have always been told that paper is what makes the plane fly!
