I ran into this neat little antique item in a dark and dusty place that had a bunch of old airplane parts, mainly spam can parts. I found it interesting and purchased it.

I found it unique in how one would use it to check RPM's against the tach. Read the instructions on the back of the unit, pretty neat. Obviously this came about long before modern electronic tach 'checkers'. Thought you might enjoy the pictures.

I remember these! There was another company that made one called "Vibra-Tach" I think. We used to use them on model airplane engines (they made them for different RPM bands). They were also able to tell you the vibration frequency of a piece of machinery by holding it against the frame and adjusting the setting until the reed vibrated. There were all sorts of neat things you could do with it.
When I built my first Heathkit optical tach I lost track of it. The batteries NEVER leaked in the Vibra-Tach! That's one reason I still have my slide rule. NO BATTERIES!

I think I still have my dad's Heathkit optical tach in my R/C stuff. I'll have to look for it and post a picture. I remember both him and me using it on our Super Tigre 23 and 46, etc.

I still have a REv check too, no batteries ; I have an old E6B too!
