  • Oversized Rings?

Recently we overhauled my engine. Kind of..... We basically just replaced all of the gaskets.

We were going to replace the rings too since we were in there. The problem was that the rings I ordered from AC Spruce were too small. I think that maybe I should have ordered oversized rings?

I'm not sure that ACSpruce has that....anyone know where I can get those instead?

    thanks,

    Hi Richard,

The rings need to be matched to the piston/cylinder size. I know that you have a C-85, but do you know if they are size, or do you have bored-out cylinders? If so then you need rings to suit. Fresno may have them (Trade-a-plane) or your regular engine shop.

The colour of the paint on the cylinder fins might give an indication as to the oversize (if any) of the cylinders.

Remember, if you replace the rings, then you MUST re-hone the cylinders and then use non-ashless-dispersant oil to bed the new rings in.

My bet is to re-use the old rings, they are already bedded in. PM me for further details.

      Oversized rings

Actually, we did use the old rings. Now instead of bleeding out oil, I'm burning it. Quickly!

I don't think I could safely fly using all 3 tanks at this point. I would run out of oil before I ran out of gas!
