  • Cylinder spark plug insert thread is worn

On one cylinder of our A65-8, we have a worn & corroded threaded insert where the plug threads in (or in this case, where it doesn't!)

It's the type of insert that appears to be threaded into the head, and is retained by a pin, to prevent it rotating when you tighten/loosen the spark plug.

Is there a repair process (like a Helicoil) that doesn't involve cylinder removal?

There was a pretty extensive thread on this recently. Opinions seemed to vary as to whether it could be done without removing the cylinder.
