Gents: Looking for a good shop to have our A65-8 crankcase, crank and cam cleaned up, polished, mic'ed and inspected. The cylinders are going to a great local shop nearby, but I would really like to have the group's opinion on a shop for the internals. Same for someone to dynamic balance the moving mass, once we get that far. Might sound dumb to want to balance it, but my only frame of reference is with Warner radials, and you really had to do that with all those parts flinging around inside. Is it generally done on the little 4 cylinders?

Item 2: The engine came with no mags. Any ideas, recommendations on which way to go? Overhauled Bendix or the Slick conversion? Thanks. Bob Coolbaugh

a good automotive machine shop can clean it,balance ,and polish the crank. most have the ability to magnaflux the crank. they cannot grind the crank as they cannot do the radius.

DO NOT take it to an automotive shop!!!!! If they do any grinding, balancing, etc., you've just junked it!!! We always used Divco for our cases and have used a few others for cranks, such as ECI, or Rick Romans, and had good luck. Just make sure it's a certified shop, or you've wasted your money.

Aircraft specialties for the rotating internals. DIvco on the case. SF Bendix mags work great if properly built, Slicks are a nice way to go as well. A/C Specialties can balance internals but it is not usually necessary as long as the rods are weight matched along with the pistons. I would still double check measurements after you receive the parts back as I have seen all shops screw up in the past.

AC Specialties & Divco for me also. The folks at AC Specialties have always been great to work with.
