  • Slick mag question and a request

I bought a set of new slick mags for my O200. The drive gears came off the old mags easy, but I cant torq the nut holding the drive gear on the new mag without turning the shaft. I can hold the gear, but the shaft will turn. I would sure like some ideas.

Also I am looking for an generator/alternator core. Continental part #doff10300f. And some old mag cores to send to slick.

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

Mike- make sure the little woodruff key is there. I clamp the gear using a wooden clamp then torque it.

      Eric,

Is the woodruff key the aluminum timing pin? Also, do you have the 337 for useing the luscombe exhaust? I would like to get a copy if you do.

      Thanks,
      Mike

Re: Slick mag question and a request

the woodruff key fits in a slot on the shaft and interfaces with a slot on the gear to prevent rotation between the gear and shaft. Some mags have this key and some have other means of allignment. I seem to remember my slicks having the woodruff key. I can e-mail you the 337 when I get back next week.

There is no woodruff key. The groove in the gear just sets down on the tab for the impulse. It will do just like you said. Your not turning it far enough. Continue to turn it against the spring, and it will hit the stop and you can set the torque. Tom

Harry Fenton formerly of Slick/Unison will be of great assistance in these questions. There was even a link from the Taylorcraft.org website to Ron Wanttaja's page where he archived some of Harry's answers to questions about small Continental engines.

Thanks for the replies. This is sure a great place for info on almost anything.
I am still looking for an alternator core. If anyone has one that is worn out, I would be interested.

              Thanks again,
