  • O-235 weight?

    Hi All,
Does anyone happen to know the dry weight of an O-235 with no starter or alternator (only mags present)? I have only been able to find the weight with all accessories.
    Thanks,
    Hal

P.S. I know that not all models of the O-235 weigh the same. I'm just looking for a ballpark figure.

Hal- I know what you are thinking- if you are going to go with a Lycoming just use an old straight mount narrow deck 320. There is practically no weight difference between it and the O-235 plus you get something for the weight penalty.

I would use the O-200 over the O-235 any day. . . . it saves you so much trouble and expense when building. Engine mounts, cowlings, etc. The O-235 delivers practically no additional power and adds significant weight and complexity.

On my project- going to the IO-320 added at least 6 months work and probably 5k in expense not including the engine cost. For a sport plane you can not beat thet O-200 kept light.

You make a great point Eric. I will go with my original plan of using an O-200.
        Thanks,

Hal- The clipwing will fly fine with any of the 3 engines- I'm just saying that your weight will be so close to that of an O-320 that it would be nice to get something for the weight penalty. There is really nothing any sweeter flyting to me than a light clipwing with a hopped up 0-200. The 320 does awesome but changes the feel significantly.

You are pretty close to me- stop by anytime to take a look. I will be putting tapes and polybrush on the fuse this weeked at KBUY.

            Eric,
I would love to come by and see your airplane. Saturday morning I have a Young Eagles event at Lincolnton that I am coordinating. If you are going to be working on your project around 2:00pm, I can either drive or fly to KBUY if that is ok.
            Thanks,
            Hal
