There seems to be a lot of rudder cable slack on my 46 BC12D. I have springs on the rudder pedals but I see slack in the cable at the rear on the opposite side of the deflected rudder. Should the rudder springs be strong enough to allow some tension to prevent this?
Your cables may be too long. There should be no slack in rudder cables
Can you tighten them with the turnbuckle at the rear?
If not replace them. I had to replace mine due to bad cables.
Cut the cable at the rudder pedal and splice the new cable to the cut off end with a heat shrink tube. The hold is good and pull the old cable with the new cable attached until it come out the rear of the fuselage. That way you are assured the cable is routed correctly inside the fuselage.
Make sure the return springs are strong enough first. Just try and replace them first before making new cables.
