O-235 stc

Does anyone know of an STC for a BC12-D to upgrade to a Lycoming O-235? Any thoughts, PRO's or CON would be welcome!! I currently have a O-200 I'm getting ready to install but, if I can get just a little more power for mountain flying (I'm in Washington State) I might try it.

Limit the power to +10% via rpm. Fuel flow may have to be increased via changes in fuel line diameter and minimum fuel in the main tank maintained (3 gallons for example). Noise limits come into play as well. To meet W&B they reportedly had to add 8# to the tail. Moving the battery aft might also move the CG. Taylorcraft went through this with their F-19 and F-21 according to Chet Peek's book.

It would make a great altitude engine with power +10% at higher density altitudes.

to install an O-235 and only get an extra 6.5hp isn't worth the effort. I think the "experimental exhibition" is about the only way I can go. There will have to be major changes to the fuel system, maybe remove the main tank and tie the wing tanks together then add a tank behind the seat with a pump & check valve to jump into the wings tanks like I have in my Cessna 152. I will also need fuel gages and the battery may have to be moved to get the CG correct .

What power you apply is your choice in any aircraft. The rest is whether or not you want to remain certificated or experimental. There is a reason holders of the C-85 Stroker STC claim no increase in power even though it may on occasion happen.
