Taylorcraft Foundation NEWS Spring 2003
By: Forrest Barber, Executive Director Taylorcraft Foundation, rev 3-7-03
This is a summation for the Spring 2003 TOC newsletter of what WE have been sharing with the factory through Mr. Ingram. These thoughts of mine (after many e-mails from members) were sent to the factory about two weeks ago. The factory news follows and will also be printed in the TOC newsletter. This is my report for this newsletter.
The Taylorcraft Owners Club has been meeting at Barber Airport in Alliance, Oh for a yearly fly-in since 1973. The Taylorcraft Foundation was formed Oct 7th, 1998. The Owners Club has about 600-700 members. The Foundation has over 400.
WE ( The Foundation & the Owner’s Club) will be available to assist you and the company with your efforts to get parts and airplanes built again. Perhaps you could develop your web site with a method to have customers respond directly to you with the thoughts and requests they have for parts & models. In the mean time, here is a bit of a summation of what WE need now asap!
As we all know the airplane is the sum of its parts. So logically you will have to build or acquire all the parts to build the airplane. Here are real necessary parts that we need out in the field to keep our 4000-5000 ships flying.
Remember fire-wall aft parts are the same for all models of ATC 696 & 1A9…. All owners should have a reprint of the Feris era “Parts & Price list” for the F-19 or F-21 ship. We have them here for sale at the Foundation. They are on Capt Jon’s web site too.
WE NEED:
Baffle Assy: most all models page 3 of Parts & Price List
Cowling Installations : all models page 4 especially the B-9039 & B-9026 slip seam hinges AND the longer B9039-1 & B9026-1 plus B9026-2 for the later engines
Gascolators: All, it sure is nice to “install a Taylorcraft part by number”
Empennage installation: two hinge first then others ALL parts , stabs, elevators, rudder, fin tail wires ( all three lengths) nipples, wires straps, inserts, pins…
Windshield metal strips all around & rubber mouldings for early & late B models
SPARS and most all other wing parts are needed quickly; -2 fittings are really needed for the guys upgrading the gross weights & engines.
Struts , struts did I mention struts are needed NOW! Jury struts & adjusting screws too! A-A815 front strut ; A-A854 rear with the 1296 clamp for the diameter strut being used. Check with Univair they have the material
Alighting gears: we now call them landing gears; ( the tapered axle too!)
Brakes: newer and the older ones too
Carb Air boxes: A-50226 they are out sourced just resell them….. call me
Exhaust systems: you make or outsource they are available NOW you have to inspect and ship. Any other parts are good too, these were the basics!!
I will switch to some thoughts on factory set up under another transmission by e-mail. I will forward this attachment to our list service for their comments to be put onto the list, e-mailed directly to you or myself. I hope now to visit LaGrange in about two-three weeks. Bye Forrest Barber
