Won't finish the ribstitch repair on 20442 in time. But will sneak the straight tail 172 in and hide in the back row Saturday around noonish and depart Sunday.

      Re: Alliance Ohio 2006 Fly-In & Reunion

Just got back from Alliance! It was a good time. Unfortunately, I didn't take my little Taylorcraft, I had two grandsons who wanted to go along. I couldn't bear to turn either one down, I thought we'd try it; in went small tent, three sleeping bags, small bag w/ change of socks, sweaters, etc. Just barely, IF we sit on one sleeping bag. Should help little guys see out! So, we board, packing all three of us in. Well there were shouts "You're poking me with your elbow! You're poking me with your knees! Ouch, you're squishing me!" The kids protested a little bit too! Well, the weight and balance was OK, but I wasn't too sure about the legality (or safety) of two kids in one seat belt! Well, I have use of a Cessna Skyhawk, we can fit in there just fine. So, we loaded up the Spam Can!

Leaving the (previously maligned) Altoona airport, an hour and a half out in the "Slowhawk"! It ususally takes me 1 hr 45 min in the BC12-D1! No big deal faster eh? But the kids enjoyed the trip, the camping, all the neat airplanes, and now we're back home, hour and a half again! The boys told their Mom it was a great trip with Grandpa! What could be better? :-)) Thanks Forrest and all who worked so hard to make it happen once more! We sure do appreciate it!

Thanks, Forrest, Patty, Bruce, Hobo, Jack, Don, Betty, Bob, Paul, David, and all the rest that I met for the first time in person. I especially appreciate your hospitality, Forrest. Thanks for being so generous with your time and knowledge. The history, the old timers, the airplanes - I had a great time, although almost 9 hours flying time one way left me a bit groggy for the two days I was there. Would have loved to stay through today (Saturday) at least, but I was trying to beat a frontal system - which I didn't, but it turned out to have lost all its energy and only spit a bit of rain at Miss Midge and me. Got back to my home base 9½ hours after lifting off from 2D1.

I am a no show this year. Tucker is laying low and out of the heat.

Got to the ranch for the 4th and decided to stay here and do some fire duty as my historic family home was threatned by a big wild fire (google tiger fire, crown king arizona).

Sorry to have missed seeing you all there, mayeb next year.

Tiger Fire near Crown King, AZ: ROllerton, I hope you are making out OK there! I visited Crown King, AZ last February. If one hasn't been there, it would be difficult to imagine the terrain and the access roads anywhere near Crown King. Some kind of place indeed! Good luck! (p.s. we have relatives up near Mayer, who used to have a camp near Crown King. We jolted down many of the roads all around the area looking things over)

A quick thanx to all who made our day at the field so enjoyable!

We had a great time and got to meet a lot of really neat folks. Forrest, I especially want to thank you for your generosity in taking the time to look up records and talk about NC20407. I know you were busy and pulled in lots of directions. We will plan on flying 20407 in next year and spending the weekend!

                  Forrest and all,

First trip for me to Alliance from Rostraver near Pittsburgh but not for N44057. She's been there many times with other owners. Very nice hospitality and it was a great day at the field.

Fun to watch Forrest retime the engine on the A-model (twice) then hop in for a turn around the patch.

Forrest, thanks for your friendly once-over on my airplane. I'll take care of those gigs before the next time I fly. And if you can ever figure out who flew 44057 on September 6, 1946 and why it's not really an Ace, let me know!

Thanks again. It was a great day.

                    Re: Alliance Ohio 2006 Fly-In & Reunion

It is 10:40PM , Monday evening. WE had terrible rain & thunderstorms this afternoon Time-Warner Cable hi speed and the digital phone took a big dump last Sat. along with my refridgerator. Just got it all back now, Connie has a great report of all those that attended. Will compile it Tues or Wed and put onto the Web . thank you all for your comments, I did retime the mag twice BUT somebody did not get the internal correct, I had to fire things 180 degrees off , but she sure did run good on Sat...

The Model A prototype rides again. THANK you all for coming we had about 18 Tcrafts fly in and more than that in separate owners that drove in.....I do understand about the weather all around us , if I had not lived here I would have probably stayed away this year. HOWEVER it was the best weather here in along time.... WE have beautiful pictures of the Robert Taylor Memorial fly-by on Sat . evening with the E-2 leading the Model A around the airport & the factory. David Whitaker did one set perhaps others are out there too!! EGADS here comes another storm , nite nite Forrest Bob , Ruth , & Tuck yes we missed you but we understand....maybe Osh??

                      Re: Alliance Ohio 2006 Fly-In & Reunion

Here is the Press release used for local papers. Still fighting rain & flooding..More soon.

TOC & Foundation Press release 2006 aftermath: 7-11-06

The Taylorcraft Reunion 2006 was well attended on Fri, Sat & Sun with 89 Owners & Pilots registered for those three days. There was a total of over 130 airplanes in and out over the week-end. A total of 19 Taylorcrafts attended from several states as far away as Maine, Michigan, Kentucky, Minnesota, & N. Carolina plus Canada.

Awards given out Sat evening went to Bruce Patten, Norridgewock, Maine , farthest distance and longest ownership. Jim Brock from London , Ky went home with the award for the newest Taylorcraft. This ship was the last F-21B built in Alliance by Dorothy Feris’s company in 1986. The Oldest Taylorcraft was of course the prototype Model A , ser#25 that was flying over the old factory north of town on Sat & Sun. Scott Taylor, grandson of C.G. Taylor accepted the award for the Taylor family.

Scott flew the Taylor-Cub, E-2, ser# 25 built in Oct 1931 along with Forrest Barber flying the Model A Taylorcraft ser#25 around the airport, the old factory & Alliance on Sat evening as a Memorial to Robert H. Taylor , son of C.G. who recently passed away at his home in New Middletown, Oh. “Bob” had flown both of these aircraft at the fly-ins many times in the past.
The crowd took many photos and were impressed with being able to see both the “first” Taylorcraft to arrive in Alliance 7-7-36 and the “last” Taylorcraft which left the factory in July 1986 parked side by side at the airport on both days. EAA Chapter #82 based at the Barber Airport served close to 500 breakfasts over the week-end with over 125 cars entering the north parking area.

Check David Whitakers photos on another thread under general discussion for pictures of the Memorial. (;f
