  • Alliance Ohio 2006 Fly-In & Reunion

YES we will have one!! For a few that don't check the web site & use only the discussion group here is the real thing from the web site:

    July 7th,8th & 9th 2006: Taylorcraft Foundation, Taylorcraft Owner's Club, Taylorcraft Factory Old-Timer's Fly-In & Reunion
Breakfast served Sat & Sun 7AM to 11AM by EAA Chapter #82. Public Invited. See the airplanes built in Alliance & the people that built them. Volunteers needed in all areas; see Forrest or Bruce when you arrive. Contact Pat, Forrest & Kelli Barber 330-823-1168 ([email protected]) or Bruce Bixler 823-9748 ([email protected]) For information regarding motel accommodations in the Alliance area, go to this link http://www.oaafly-in.com , and click on the "Overnight" tab at the top of the page. See http://www.barberaircraft.com for airport diagrams.

This year we will have special events on Friday the 7th ; commerating the arrival of the Prototype in Alliance on 7-7-36, we will do fly-bys of her at the Old Factory.
My father , Al Barber went west on 7-7-76, two days after the Fly-In that year. WE will do a commenerative missing man for him on Friday. I do suggest arriving on Thurs the 6th or WED or TUES .... WE are having a big fireworks thing in Alliance on Tues the 4th ( remember the good old days when we did the fireworks at the Airport?)

I will be ready for early arrivals. Come one come all...... please use this thread to indicate to your friends when you may be here... BRING tie-downs.

I am posting this for the Taylorcraft Owners Club, the Taylorcraft Old-Timers's, and EAA Chapter #82. Remember the Fly-In & Reunion is put on by the Owners Club & Old-Timer's ( and boy are they getting Old! ) at the Barber Airport , Forrest & the Foundation will be here but mainly running the Airport Operation. Foundation Board of Directors will meet either Friday or Saturday. Listen on 122.9 for arrival information.

Duke Iden & his gang will need help bringing stuff out on Friday... Dave Whitaker & his wife Judy are pitching in this year with Bruce & his family to get things done.
Dave is bringing a Tractor to have a shuttle for the older folks to look at the aircraft. Rumor has it that the Aerobatic Box will open on Sat... the Fly-by on Sat morning will happen at 8AM. More as it develops. Church Service at 9AM on Sun. with Rev. Forest Yoder & his lovely bride Ruth leading us in prayer & song....

I intend to sell off a lot of inventory this year. I need room for new projects. Make reasonable offers on the ser#45 Model A and the F-22 fuselage and you may own them!

Use this thread to let us know you are coming out this year...been doing it since 1973...

    Re: Alliance Ohio 2006 Fly-In & Reunion

I've started the flight planning. Anyone else from MN, IA, WI, or IL want to join up along the way? My flight plan involves departing from KFCM (Flying Cloud in MN) more or less direct to KJOT (Joliet, IL) more or less direct to 2D1 (Barber) with stops as needed. I'm leaning towards leaving on Thursday but maybe Friday depending upon weather. Even if you can't join up, I'd also appreciate any thoughts anyone has as to airports along the way that are "must stop" experiences. Thanks.

Last Sat I was ready to throw my hands up and just cancel the whole thing!! Rain & more rain is very depressing,
It is now Monday July 3rd. WE are READY..... Field is mowed FINALLY , rows need to be placed. Food vendors are ready. Awards are here.. Everything seems to be in place. Now my big question , IS ANYONE coming this year? We have had a bunch back & forth to Lock Haven, many visitors going different places , sold a bunch of parts last Sunday.... lets hear from you out there in the soggy United States. Got a new coil coming for the Model A. WEll abck to the old grind. bye Forrest

It looks like weather here in Alliance will be good thru Sunday. The tornado missed us by about 10 miles! Chuck & Connie Baughman are the first arrivals, we will have an early arrival party tomorrow night, right after I get the final mowing done and all the sale items out on the trailers...more as I get it!!

                Re: Alliance Ohio 2006 Fly-In & Reunion

Hope to arrive on Saturday early, maybe 9AM. I've never been there but my T'craft has been there at least three times, so she should know the way

Any arrival tricks? Anything to watch out for? I see that is a busy area and I'll probably be coming from directly east or from southeast (depends on how I go around Pitt Class B.

What happens if I get there when the fly-bys are happening? Need advice.

Go north to avoid Pittsburg, turn left and straight ahead.

                    Re: Alliance Ohio 2006 Fly-In & Reunion

Happy to say that my last encounter with Altoona was when I was flight training and my instructor took me there to see the Flight Service station. That was a good trip.

Mike, was it a year ago that you had that problem, and was it on the way back from Alliance?

But I still need some advice on the approach to such a busy place as Barber Field. Any help would be appreciated.

Wish I could make it, but I won't be picking up my next Tcraft until the following weekend. I hope everyone has a great time. For those of us that wont be there we will have to wait for the pics and stories to roll in.

It probably won't be as busy as you anticipate. Do make a low pass first to insure you can see where the runway begins; I recall George pointing out that I was about to land in the stuff leading to the R/W. - Mike
