Bought 387 off NWAAC a few months ago and flew home 2000 miles to Anchorage with a friend. Missing the aircrafts logbooks pre 1978. TT on airframe is 7000+ hrs. Total time since ground up restoration is 70hrs. TSMOH is 80hrs. Has the C150 exhaust with what seems to be a much too small cabin heater box. Need to work on sealing up the cabin & juicing up the cabin heat. Added a left wing tank & re-pitched prop from 44 to 40.

Wally Olson bought 387 in 1965 and kept it with Evergreen Flying Service as a primary trainer until his family sold it to Paulson’s Aircraft in 2000. History on it is a bit fuzzy from 1997 to 2008. Some time around 1997 the aircraft was disassembled and many of its parts were dispersed, probably to some of you… In 2008 the airframe was stripped, painted, and recovered by Mr. Jeff Paulson of Evergreen Aviation Services using Ceconite.

NWAAC took possession of 387 as a club project in 2008. The project stalled so Dan Beltrami took over the job of restoring the aircraft. Dan did a sweet job, fabricating many parts from scratch. She fly’s beautifully, I’m happy to have such a great bird to finish my private in.

    Kris,

N43387 is a very special airplane to all of us who used to frequent Evergreen Airfield. There is a lot of Wally Olsen in her too. I feel confident that it would not be an exaggeration to say about half the pilots in Vanvouver, Washington have flown that plane. There are literally hundreds of people around here that logged the bulk of their required hours in her to get their private license. I used to live in an apartment on Mill Plain, just east of Evergreen. Wally had two Taylorcraft, identical except for the color of the stripe. One was blue, and 387s was red. At ANY given time, if the weather was VFR, one of those planes could be seen in the air over my apartment. After Wally passed and Jeff took over the place, the fabric from 387 hung on the inside wall of the hangar. I watched a lot of guys walk out of that hangar with tears in their eyes when they saw all the signatures of everyone who had flown her over the years. I don't know what ever happened to that fabric, but I hope someone is taking good care of it. I am happy that someone restored her and she is flying again. So take good care of her. She is indeed a very special bird.

      Richard,

Knew I came across a special aircraft after digging into her history a bit - proceeded to buy 387 sight unseen. Read everything I could find about Wally & Evergreen. I’m interested in hearing anything people are willing to share on 387. Also, would love to see pic's of what she used to look like.

        Kris,,

I think I might have a picture of the fabric hanging on the wall of Jeff's shop. I don't have any of her in flying condition. I can tell you that it was basic white with the standard Taylorcraft stripe down the side.
