I owned this airplane in 1974 - my first. Built up my x-country toward my commercial in it and sold it after about 6 months to move on with my training. Al Barber did the annual for me that year. I got curious about it a couple of years ago, tracked it down in the registry. I found out it belonged to a friend of a friend, and, short story, I now own it. Bought it back last June. It hadn't been flown for 5 or 6 years, and had sat outside for 20. The guy I sold it to wrecked it, it sat in pieces in an open t-hanger for a few years. A guy bought it and fully restored it, but then went cheap and left it out all those years, but actively flew it. The owner became ill and left it sit, then sold it to a friend of his who put it inside. That's where I found it. He had never opened any inspection holes, which really helped. The wings are in great shape! Spar is good - just clean up stuff. I've stripped her bare, cleaned and primed every part. Fuselage is covered, but need to wait for warmer weather to move any further with the covering. Lots to do until then. I hope to have it flying and at the fly-in this summer, but we'll see how that goes. have a good friend IA who has a nice big hanger on his grass strip. Letting me use his facility and all and helping me a lot. Looking forward to flying her again, and will not let her go this time! My boys are all pilots - I was fortunate enough to be able to teach them myself, and I want to get them tail wheel endorsements in it. Compressions are good, and low time on the engine, but will open it up and see what we have.
This forum is such a good resource in so many ways. It's 4:13 AM and I'm sitting here reading it! How sick is that!
FYI, it really is a BC-12D - remember, it's early! (Heading is wrong)
