Colo Tcraft is Laid Up
Howdy Everyone,
Just a follow on to my trip to an from La Grange.
Did a compression Test to find out why my Sweet yellow Bird was running rough. It had dropped about 200 rpm coming home to Colo. Compression test showed a crack in the right front cylinder. Have it dissassembled and am waiting for a new cylinder assembly to be built up. Should have it by next weekend.
Unfortunately it's using up the funds I was saving for the trip to Alliance. Will need to work those days to pay for this.
I was so looking foreward to meeting more TCrafters.
The good thing is that We got her home before the problem became serious, and My Sweet Yellow Bird is still teaching me things even sitting in the hanger.
Will be back to flying in about 2 weeks.

Ron,
After putting "Maggie" in for an annual, found that the engine was "makin-metal". Well after taking the C-65-8F apart found a cracked piston on #3. The crack was on the bottom of the piston at the forward pin area! Wondering, where was the crack in yours?David Price

Howdy David,
The crack was in the cylinder right next to the exhaust valve .
Been told that this is a common place to find cracks, usually caused by shock cooling. Was wondering though if this could be related to the carb ice Sweety developed while in TX. That is when I noticed her starting to run a little rough.
The inside of the cylinder and the piston looked real good (except for the crack). No metal or other damage to be found.

I'll have to take another look to make sure which side it was on (exhaust or intake). Have no idea how long it has been running that way. Also, unable to find where it was "makin metal". Did find some magnetic black dark gunk that is confusing, but no areas of metal abuse.
Good thing is:
We're back in the air.
Thanks to all helped!David Price
