      Getting ready

Here's Travis, our chief belly washer getting the airplane ready for the trip to LaGrange this weekend. Travis will have to drive down with his grandma because me and his grand dad are flying the airplane down. I promised Travis a ride while we're at the fly-in for his helping out.

Well...Now....here we are....scrambling to borrow a handheld radio so that we'll be able to fly out from under the Presidential TFR tomorrow. It never fails...plan a flying trip...and G.Bush decides to visit the Ranch. We are just down the way from P49 Crawford....within the 30 nm radius. We sure would hat4e having to drive to the fly-in.

If a TFR shuts down our fly-in ; I will be pissed.
I do hold a bit of say with the Republician National Committee. I will certianly send some stinging comments if this happens. For you folks close by explain all this to me I do not even have a sectional of LaGrange ; which one is it that I need ? lets hope for the best all I saw was HOT & Windy....

You'll need the San Antonio sectional. It shows the 30nm radius TFR.
I'm sitting in Altus, OK with a Granddaughter. Planning a flight just to the west of the presidential TFR. Hope to be in La Grange by tomorrow PM.
Just finished my longest X-C to date. From Gadsden, AL to Altus in two days. Would have been one day except couldn't get the continental engine to crank when hot. Had to wait an hour at every fuel stop. Don't know whether it was lack of fuel or spark. Seemed to be able to drip gas out of the carb but not flooded. Would not hit at all.
Is if possible for both mags to have a heat problem?
Not a bit of problem otherwise. Flew one 3.2 hour leg. Tiresome.

I am going to be under the Austin TFR. It looks like LaGrange will be ok. Fortunately, I have a Transponder and radio. Should be an interesting trip home.........

I haven't decided if I will be camping there friday night or not. Will there be grub and showers available?

                      LaGrange Fly-In

I would love to go, but unfortunately, had to have my hip replacement done last week and so can't get in or out of aircrafts for a while. Thought, I would have a friend fly my "Yellow Duck" there, but don't know if he will be able to make it either.

Anyhow, have fun and maybe next year I will be able.

                          FANTASTIC !!

We had a wonderful time.... wish we could have flown ours down. But even though we didn't, it was a FUN windy day. The hospitality shown by the Ingram family and all of the Taylorcraft factory employees was wonderful. We felt like part of the family. We were ther only Saturday from about 9:45 AM until about 5pm. I am not sure how many Taylor airplanes made it in total, but here's a few of them all lined up in a row. I am gussing about 15 to 20 made it down. I know several that said they drove because of the TFRs.

                            Assembly Line at the Factory

Pictures can't do justice to the great job being done by Harry and his family and crew. The factory tours were a treat. Things are happening and it shows.

                              Line up

What a nice trip and visit. According to comments from those that should know, there might have been 300 people attending at one time or another for the BBQ and tours on Saturday. I had a great Texas BBQ lunch conversation with some good guys, Sterling from Dallas and his friend, who flew a 172 down to see the operation. Really interesting guys. A number of people flew or drove in, outside of the owners.

I was impressed with Harry and his gang. Their vision and hospitality was more than I expected. Wish more could have made it, and brought more pretty Tcrafts too, but I for one was very happy with the entire experience. I heard nothing but the same from others. Can't wait for more developments there, and a return trip for the second annual meeting.

20-knot headwinds slowed me and others down a little on the flight down from the north, so it was a 15-hour, expected overnight flight. Landed at 5:30 PM Friday local time with five Tcrafts already tied down. Had a great time going home on Sunday. Jim Zangger and Lee Bowden of eastern Iowa with their two beautiful Tcrafts (you know them and their planes), were always in my view, as they invited me to join them as a flight of three for the return trip. I’m really glad I asked if I could tag along. They brought me right into the fold. It was a great experience for me, getting about 850 miles of formation flight. I hope to have the opportunity to fly with them again. I could go on about that experience for a long time…… I flew the last 2.5 hours home on my own after splitting off from them on Monday morning around Ottumwa Iowa, where we spent the night. With another hour of daylight, Jim and Lee could have made it home in one day. For me, I’m glad it worked out that way because they’re good company. We also took time Monday morning to stop and spend a couple of hours at the Blakesburg Antique Aircraft museum. I think Jim knows everybody….. Total trip for me, 26 hours and 2160 miles.

Unfortunately, some people couldn’t fly in because of a Presidential TFR in place. Terry and his father and boys, among others, were examples of those that made the drive. That picture that Terry posted of his boys cleaning airplane bellies was a pretty common site on Saturday. We should see some good photos soon from the volunteers that were documenting everything. I'll try to attach one more line up picture here.
