Re: Article in The Brownsville Herald

Lee , Would like your thoughts after you look at the Rans S-7 ? Couirer or some such (I always confuse the numbers) any way it is the Champ Tandem type plane with the GO- Cart wheels .Boy, a set of REAL Aircraft wheels and tires LIKE SHINNS with 600 6s sure would help it a lot !!! Also they seem to put some real crap in their planes when one looks at things like oil lines etc. Looks like a lot of ultralite junk left over from their beginings in my opinion. BUT I diegress . PLEASE looke it over carefully and let me/us know what you think. The Zenair seems to be well thought out. Look foward to your comments here too!!. Any way happy travels. If you are in SC stop by Lexington SC!! I need to pull away from my never ending Building business soon and go up North to pick up a Baby Ace (trailor it back) Its a complete plane that I am looking foward to doing some fun wind in the face flying with with a gaggle of others down here in the " Moe Camel Squadran " (Society of open cockpit /taildragger flyers !!)

Jim I also think most of these planes are a lot like ultra lights. Not crazy about them either. or the Rotax, even the four cycle. There is a lot of the ultra light in them. The S-7 is the tandem, and the S-6 is the side by side. Zenair in Mexico MO has the Ercoupe like Zodiac and the high wing STOL type, will try to look at them also.

But for now the trip has been postponed again thanks to Rita. Not a great deal of damage, but enough to keep us busy for a while. Roof off the hangar, and some roof damage on my home and garage. I have a few rental units that I will need to check today. I know one is flooded up to the windows. Haven't been able to get there yet. Going to try and fly over today. Weather was not that great yesterday. Bud did start cleaning the yard some. A couple of Oak trees down.

Love the wind in your face flying. Have owned a couple. The last was an Acrosport 11 with an 0-360 , 200 hp full inverted system. Lots of fun. Sold it to my partners after my last heart problem. It is still here. Wish the Hatz was in our weight limit for the LSA.

        Lee,

Best of luck with all. Sorry to hear you had even some damage. Glad it was not too much. Take care.

Lee, take a look at the Zenair 701 and 801 designs. I was very impressed with them, and even more impressed with how the designer explains his rationale on their website for all to see. The CH701 looks like the box an airplane should come in. There's no argument on that. However, the Jeep looks like the box a car should come in too.

Chris Heintz seems to be a very well educated and experienced aero engineer. He also explains very thoroughly how and why he made all the decisions when designing the aircraft. When I looked through his series of design articles "Heintz Design College", I walked away madly in love with that ugly little airplane.

It seems to me that they would make very good, long lasing little bushplanes. They also appear to be able to deliver MORE STOL performance than a Cub or T-craft on the same power. They also look like they're a lot easier to build than many other LSA/EXP kit lanes.

The only thing that I saw that I didn't like was the nosewheel and the single control stick in the middle But those things are easily rectified.

One nice thing is that Zenair seems to have more happy customers and a better reputation than certain other small airplane manufacturers.

Bill, I also liked both the 601 and the 701. In fact we were going there when Rita hit here. I have a reunion I must attend on the 14,15,and 16th of Oct. After that we are planning on going to Mexico Mo to see and fly both. I have spoken with Sebastian several times. I will let you know what I find and how I like the flying characteristic these aircrafts, and report back.

              Howdy Lee,

If you have an interest in the Zenith 701, look at an aircraft called the SAVANNAH. I have been watching this aircraft for a while now and although it looks very, very similar, there appears to be less work in completing the aircraft. In addition, you can purchase a completed aircraft(LSA) that is ready to fly!!!

There is a pretty nice web site. Just type in savannah aircraft and do a search.
              Best Regards

Thank Paul. Will do so when I finish my e-mail. Altho, I have an L-2 friend that has just completed restortation on a B model and may be considering selling it. If the price is not too high, that may be a possibility. Love the L-2 also. (Now if it only had an 0-200. LOL)
