  • Airline Security Rant

Concerning the latest news reports on X-ray zapping and pat-downs; I am a lot more disturbed, nay pissed off, about the stupidity of the general approach to security here in the states than I am about the current specific problem that seems to be the latest Entertainment News rage.

The security agency is so hung up on being politically correct that they don't even use common sense. There may not be a profile or behavior that indicates that a specific individual should be suspect, but at least they could rule out about 85 percent of the passengers just by looks and behavior alone.

What the hell is with a full body pat down of a 60 year old matron or someone's grandfather who can barely get around. Sorry, but the guys who try to blow up things fall into a certain category that is different from most of the general public in the US. If that puts someone out, too bad.

Strikes me that we have already lost to those dudes. We have pretty much ruined our way of life, especially traveling, by over reacting to the threat.

Personally I feel a lot more threatened if I have to fly on a crappy feeder airline. Statistically speaking the danger is a lot higher I am sure. Sometimes airplanes, like cars and other high-energy devices, kill people. Get over it. The last 10 percent of anything always costs too much, time or money.

Get rid of some of the security guys and hire more inspectors for the airlines. Use your brains, and knock off the pussy-footing around protecting the feelings of 5 percent of the population by seriously penalizing the other 95 percent.

Maybe airlines should pass out loaded pistols to every passenger getting on the plane and tell them if they see someone suspicous trying to get in the cockpit or pulling out a bomb shoot them. It may end up making some planes fall out of the sky, but it will stop the hijacking. Marv

I'm headed to Disney with my wife and 3 daughters, ages 6, 3, and 2 on Saturday. I hope that they see us as a family on vacation and not a bunch of terrorists.

That being said, if they decide to pat down my two year old, I'll be on the 6 o'clock news Saturday.
