Ir rings hollow to be outraged for the one and not the other.

Ya have to love political jokes and Americans have the freedom to make such jokes with impunity. (so far)
Mark I could not agree more, we as a nation seem to have lost the ability to laugh at our selves and I miss that repartee that we used to be able to enjoy.

I remember when President Richard Nixon appeared on Laugh-In and said those famous words "Sock it to me?". Well, we did in the end. At least he was willing to have some fun at his own expense.

Re: Message from Bush to Obummer

I think I see a little something different going on with peoples reaction concerning the presidency this time:

I believe that often we elect one of two persons to the office who are in the long run a part of the system (in the worst way) and are rather expecting that the results will be as always. One expects more crap results and usually gets it.

This time many people had high hopes that things would be different and now when they aren't, we are rather emotionally sensitive.

I think that also many people feel honorably and emotionally responsible, however illogical, to be protective of the first non-white president in the office. It is also apparent, to me at least, that there are many people who feel exactly the opposite about that reality.

Personally I appreciate some of the well thought out points made in this thread. They have made me modify my attitude somewhat in what I think is a positive and beneficial way for me.

Finally, looking at the original joke closely it is apparent to me that it is also a slam on both politicians, for who would send a message like that to standing president. Double whammy there, right?

Justice Stevens remarking on the so called" slight" during the state of the union message. " I do not attend the State of the Union as it is a political situation, always has been. It is also only a fairly recent event that the justices have gone to this." unquote- Personally, I don't think companys should be allowed this new ruling. What about the stockholders? They own the company so THEY should decide this. How can the company be sure how THEY feel? (They can't!) As for friendship, I feel everyone is entitled to their opinion. For instance, I was a BIG Yankee fan, Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, etc. I still am although I live near Baltimore. Several good pals don't like the Yankees but thats their problem. JC

Your Yankees beat my Dodgers too many times in the World Series in the
50's. But I do have one series to remember. Like the Colts they abandoned their rightful home.

Speaking of the Bronx Bums, I see Dwight Gooden made the news again.

The Baltimore Colts! Johnny Unitas! Giants and Colts game! What a team. Bob Irsey pulled out of town in the dead of night. It was a tremendous loss for Baltimore! Gino Marchetti! Allan Ameche!, the list goes on. John Unitas signed with the colts for 13,000.00! John and the Colts really put the NFL on the map. He should have been given a lifetime job in the upper regions of the NFL. He was a real gentleman as were the others mentioned. A terrible loss for Baltimore! The fans never got over it....(to this day!) JC

Didn't Ameche have a chain of drive in restaurants. I think I can remember
eating at one. 1959-1960 Bainbridge Maryland.
