  • Silverstate Helicopters Shutdown

Big change at our airport. The Silverstate operation shut down yesterday. All closed up with security guards standing out front. Employees all terminated. I feel bad for maintainence guys who worked there, they were a pretty good crew, but I'm glad to have the helicopter operations off the airport, they were a total pain, acted as if they owned the place, and were pretty careless with their flying in the pattern and on the airport.

Google the above title for news article.

I had predicted that the guys paying $200 an hour to get their rating would find that chopper pilot employment was very limited, especially if you don't have big-time turbine hours. Wondered how long they would get away with BS'ing their students.

    Re: Silverstate Helicopters Shutdown

I heard their radio spots out here in Phoenix/Mesa all the time and I knew they were big time bogus.

The spots made it seem like there was an extreme global shortage of helicopter pilots. They made it sound like as soon as you finished your training in an R-22 you'd have companies begging you to come fly their turbine A-Stars, Long Rangers, BK-117's etc..

'bout time they shut down. They grew too much too fast and did it in a completely dishonest manner.

Should help me gain a bit of aerial photo business!
