Can anyone tell me why Dick Cheney is not the automatic incumbent for the Republicans? I thought the VP becomes the automatic incumbent nominee for President after the President serves his term?

Only if they want, and usually they do. Too many people don't trust him do to the negativity you see on TV. Doesn't it speak volumes that he doesn't want it??

I actually listened to the man talk, and he is freakin smart, level headed and has great ideas. I personally think he would make a great President, but thats just little ole me. I would have like to see Condi Rice run too........she's too smart for that though!!

May Be the other lawyers wont let him because he shot one. I think our Texan presidents need to leave their VP's in Washington when they come home to go hunting. Remember when George Sr. brought Dan Quayle down here dove hunting and he shot a Kill Deer. It's bad enough shooting our lawyers but a kill deer is a protected bird. At least there is a fine for shooting Kill Deers.

Reminds me of an idea I had, in case one particular female Senator becomes the Democratic nominee... I'd like to make up bumper stickers that say "Sure, no problem, just not THAT one!"

Cheney goes all the way back to being an aide to Nixon. He is indeed smart and shrewd, and I would not be surprised if he is the actual decision maker as much or more than GWB.

The problem is that the foxes we elect to guard our national hen house are all rather shrewd, whether liberal or conservative, and the hens have given up too much of the authority.

Yeah I agree Cheney is level-headed and has great ideas, like going into Iraq and making George king.

The authority didn't get taken away, it just wasn't ours in the first place. The Consititution was an economic and security document and the bill of rights was just added as an afterthought. Hasn't changed much over the years. The people with the money have always run this country. It just hasn't been so noticable in the past as we were so spread out and communications isolated. Still the best country in the world, and some things are getting better, but we shouldn't kid ourselves about how things work.

You're welcome, but not everyone gets their information from television. I had typed a bigger rant here, but on second thought I'll just say that he will be out of office soon and with any kind of luck maybe that bad ticker of his will give up and quit before he has a chance to do any more damage to what little vestige of democracy we have left in this country.
