The PSA blood test is more important than the physical exam in detecting cancer early. The digital test is used to detect enlargement known as BPH which can cause difficulty in emptying and frequency, nocturia. If it feels nodular, can be tumor. A normal physical exam does not exclude cancer.

It is said that ALL men will eventually get prostate cancer if they live long enough. Many get it quite early in life, 50s and 60s not uncommon.

The PSA is something that everyone should get annually. Early detection using this test can detect it before it spreads and is too late. Surgery can be easily performed in the early stages and is very successful.

Mike's advice should be well taken. Singer Dan Fogelberg (of "Leader of the Band" fame) just passed from this disease. He was in his mid sixties.

My prostate cancer was found 7 years ago during my flight physical. 40 e
xternal radiation treatments, painless, and i am cancer free for 7 years.
