  • my other toy

Wasn't someone discussing ground transport toys and posting pix here a while back? This is my 74 Z28 Camaro. I did the complete rebuild of the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, bodywork and paint. You don't even want to know how long that took while working a regular job of 60 hours a week. Engine is hot-rodded.
Oops I forgot. Built a custom exhaust system for $82.

You have indeed impressed me, that IS a lot of work. I may do one more flat head Ford street rod for retirement. I fellow here is starting to build up a Ford model R, got frame from Ca.

      Re: my other toy

The guys who can do their own cars to show car quality are the ones that astound me. Mine looks nice for, what do the guys say, a daily driver. Well, maybe a little better than that. Don't drive it every day, so it is still pretty cherry.

A roadster? Now that sounds like fun. I kinda wish I had bought a Cobra kit and put the time and money into that.

I used to have a Factory Five Shelby Cobra.....very nice quality kit. I got it in a trade and I did not assemble it. It had the running gears from a Mustange GT but with a 429 engine backed by a 5 speed tranny and 10 bolt muncie rear end. Very fun car to drive, wish I would have kept it but that's what a divorce will do to ya sometimes. At that time it was either sell the car and split the cash or sell my C-195(which I ended up selling anyway to pay off other bills at that time).I think in the long run it would have been cheaper and easier to shoot her.Worst case would have been 5 years with early parol for good behavier and I might have even been able to get off with justifiable homicide.LOL......ya just have to know the bitch.
Anyway,it was a nice car and I do plan to build one myself someday if I ever get caught up on my airplane projects.

Put the car project in one corner and the airplane project in the other corner of the hanger and flip a coin as to which one you will work on , every day that you have a chance to work on one. I did and neither one is done. Marv

            Marv,
The problem is too many airplane projects at the moment....I'm all out of corners.

I feel your pain. I've got 2 hangars worth of stuff in one these days.

Getting around in it is like the old combat infiltration course, minus the machineguns & artillery simulators.

The F5 guys seem to have their ducks in a row with their business, but a review (car and driver?) I read took the kit car to task as being scary loose for the speed capabilities it has. They were also unhappy with the way it handled even the smallest roughness in the road. Said it was really a pain to ride in. I know the car is a brute, but I was surprised at the review. My guess is that it could all be fixed with better suspension parts. They did say some good things about it too. I would sure like to play with the racing version on a track
