  • C.A.P. Cap

    I've joined the Civil Air Patrol and I'm now a first Lt. I'm ordering uniform items and come-a-cropper on my uniform cap. There is a flight cap, a duty cap, a dress cap, and a neat ball cap with wings on it... which are useful and somewhat interchangeable. Some of them look sharp and some don't.

    However, these caps all come in sizes up through 7 3/4s only. I am a fat-headed 7-7/8ths. There is a fix provided for such a bulbous head as mine. It is to order a Navy Blue baseball cap, whatever size needed, and put in large white letters 3 inches tall - CAP over the brim (standing for Civil Air Patrol). To civilians I will be wearing a cap... with the word CAP on it. As if to say, I wouldn't otherwise recognize my own cap without the identifying lettering. So this is a nice Forrest Gump piece of kit I will enjoy... with humility and interior grace.

    Should you ever see me in my CAP cap... please enjoy the joke with me.

    You can't make up for the absurdities of life... so you best enjoy the laughs that come with it.
    With regards;
    Ed O'Brien
    I'll be the one laughing in the Forrest Gump CAP cap.
