On 24 Aug over 100 citizens gathered and 30 people spoke at the City Common Council meeting to protest a vote to close our airport. Two council members who are (allegedly) on the take from local developers (unconfirmed) then tabled the measure until January. Further developments: A day after tabling the measure, it appears that there is now a change of heart and they are going to vote to keep the airport open. For years they have avoided improving the airport, have refused FAA funds to repave the runway, and have not expanded hangar space (there are over 10 people on a waiting list). Thank you to members of EAA Chapter 371 who help organize opposition to this silly plan. Our airport is the only one with a paved runway surface in our whole County...which seems more important after what we saw in Maui this past month. Definitely try to keep apprised of what your local govt. has planned for your airport and stay ahead of the curve!
