When I was in the Army based in Verona Italy I had the pleasure of being able to run around in a 49 Chevy "fastback" sedan that I had put back together. My girlfriend was with me one day crusin' up the Autostrada headed from Verona to Milano as I remember. I was maybe 19 so we were going as fast as that straight six would go--about 85. No speed limits on the freeway then at least.
So this Fiat 1100 (I think) came creeping up beside me. As we went up a slight grade in the rolling hills he would pull ahead of me and as we went downhill I would pull ahead of him. This went on for about 5 minutes.
It was warm that day and the wind turners (anyone remember those) were cranked out on the Chevy about 45 degrees and the windows were open some. I turned to Teresa and told her to pull in the wind turners and roll up the window. She objected for a moment, but did as I asked and I pulled mine in too.
My Chevy proceeded to accelerate and pulled away from the Fiat 1100. It was either 1961 or 62.
