  • autofuel bs from EAA rep

I cannot believe the bull crap that people in positions of "power" express as fact.

Macnair states that you have to take the ethanol out of normal car gas to make it usable in aircraft and that would make the fuel very expensive.

I have questioned several car gas tanker drivers and they ALL said that the ethanol free plain gas is put into the tanker first and the ethanol is then added. It totally makes sense that they would do it that way. That is, storing the ethanol and the gasoline separately.

He also blatantly suggests the we little guys aren't important even though we make up 75% of the aircraft operators. Just the big gas guzzler aircraft operators are important.

I don't even know what else to say---

First, I didn't read the article, it will probably just make me upset. My wife, who was in the motor fuel industry, states that a lot of time the ethanol is mixed in the terminal, not necessarily in the tanker truck. The major fuel distributors, BP, etc., want that federal tax credit for adding ethanol. Sometimes they pass that credit on to the consumer and sometimes they don't. It is a greed thing from the fuel producers to the corn growers, we have all read the articles of how big the ethanol lobby is now. Where the money goes is where they are going to go and the politicians who get their pockets lined to push ethanol are also part of the problem.

And he is probably right, we represent such a very small user of motor fuels that I am surprised 100LL is even still available. And to throw another wrench into it, a friend of mine who was a local FBO owner stated his cost was very close to whatever the cost of MOGAS at the pump was. I am not saying that is the case every time, but that is what he told me.
    Cheers,
    Marty
