  • Smoke?

Late this afternoon, an Apache heli pilot called tower here @ KCXO requesting takeoff from the Army reserve ramp and transition to the airport infield area for some low level maneuvers. Tower cleared his request and he flew to the middle of the airport. A short time later, the pilot reported to tower that he was observing a large amount of smoke in the direction of the reserve ramp. Tower replied with a reassuring explanation. 'Nothing to worry about. That's just a DC-3 starting up to do an engine check.'

    Re: Smoke?

I flew to the avionics shop a few days ago and saw that DC-3 on the ramp. I didn't have a chance to get up close but it was polished and looked well cared for from a distance. Any idea who owns it?

CAF in Burnet. BlueBonnet Belle, N595AM. My hangar neighbor flew it for a while. Now he just flies his Swift or his Stearman. Yes, I do try to bum rides whenever possible.

        Re: Smoke?

If you REALLY want to see smoke from a Radial just see if you can ever see a "Burp Run".

This is done when taking an Engine from storage/preservation.

All jugs below the 3 o'clock/9 o'clock have 1 plug removed.

        Quite impressive on a R-2800!
