Be sure you understand the Constitutional ramifications of that before signing it...

In particular, you should understand the history of what it means to be a citizen.

      Ryan,

That is a lot of Treatise to read. Can you paraphrase the parts that are applicable to a new amendment? The laws congress currently lives by allow them immunity from prosecution for sexual harassment. They also get special health care for the rest of their lives, as well as their full salaries. They also have their own health care plan. They are exempt from the Obama health care plan.

I am proposing a 28th amendment that requires them to live by the same laws as the rest of us, specifically; “Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States”.

I am not so naïve as to think this will solve all our country's problems. But I think it is a good place to start. I am not doing this because I am for or against the present administration. I am trying to get people involved in their government. Too many people think that by simply forwarding some Obama bashing emails around, they are doing their part. The American people have gotten lazy. They have ALLOWED the politicians to legislate as they see fit, influenced by big corporations and special interest groups. We the people are the minority these days, and our voice is not being heard because no one is speaking up. I am trying to poke the public in the rear and get them to wake up, take some sort of action. I grew up in the sixties. It was very common to see loads of hippies carted off to jails because of their participation in a sit in, or protest march. What I am advocating now is for people to use the legal means available to speak up and tell their legislators that we need our government to represent us, and not some special interest group, or their own greedy schemes. Help me do this by going to http://wh.gov/JVR5 and signing the petition. It is a little thing, but that is how all great things started.

Congress doesNOT respond to the average citizen. Big money has totally corrupted the process. Each member makes excellent money. They do little with the exception of running for office, eating well, free haircuts, doctor on call 24/ 7, Nice clothes and on and on. This was not the original intent. They WERE NOT supposed to make a career out of it! The intent was for successful people from all walks of life to serve for one or two terms and go home. Many of these drones have never worked other than for Government! They should NOT be allowed to be lobbyists after leaving office, EVER! JC

Re: Petition for 28th amendment to the Constitution

Why should they respect a (dangerous, IMO) attempt at making a (possibly) good amendment to the Constitution, when they violate it (the Constitution, and the rights of every citizen of the United States) almost every single day? The biggest small thing we need to do right now is tell them to obey the laws that are already on the books.

AMEN! I agree with what both of you are saying. But where to we start reigning them in? I was hoping a petition for an Amendment requiring them to abide by the same laws as the rest of us would be a good start. It is hard to create rules for the rule makers.
