  • Server outage

The server that hosts taylorcraft.org sites failed around December 22, just as myself and Ted (who provides the server and administration for the sites) were leaving town on extended business and personal trips.

The main cpu (mother) board failed completly, and that failure appears to have also took out the Raid5 meta data (road map) for storage that holds the forum database. We replaced the server with a slightly less powerful (free!) one and then started to work on the storage problem.

We spent several nights trying to recover the database, and also found problems with our off site backup service. Eventually we were able to recover and load a backup from November 2. But that recovery had some problems with missing tables in the mysql database that we had to repair by hand. It all came back to life last night sometime after 11pm.

This means that everything posted from sometime on November 2 thru last night has been lost. So if you had posted a real gem of some information, Forrest's fountain of youth, or perhaps the secret to life - then please repost it.

Nothing seems to be missing from the www.taylorcraft.org site, or the photo archive.

Realizing that we try really hard to never lose anything in the forum, I have to say it could have been a lot worse.

Do you need any donations to update or complete the repairs?

I've wondered how this forum was supported. I'm willing to chip in if there is an avenue to do so.

Yes, by all means let me know if you need some $$. Owning two airplanes means that I am near bankruptcy, but losing this sight was like losing a good friend.

I have tried to keep my Foundation membership dues up to date but find many hoops to be jumped through so it tends to slide. Let me know any way I can help although as someone just said keeping my T in a hangar and airworthy keeps me nearly bankrupt still I don't want to lose this forum. Don't know how any survive without it.
