  • Fly-In - Texas

    Everyone,

Sorry for the really late notice but anyone of you within flying distance of Louise TX (Flying V Ranch)should try to make the Under the Wire Flyin this weekend. There will b a few arrivals this evening but most activity will be tommorrow. The biggest crowd will be from about 10:00am unitil early afternoon. Some will stall all day for the flour bombing, spot landing contest and BBQ supper.

With the awesome weather this weekend there will be a large turnout. Probably well over a 100 planes on the ground Saturday around lunch. There are usally a couple Taylorcrafts in attendace. Mine will be there this year! I am picking my daughter up from school today and we are flying over.

This is really one of the, if not the best flyin at a private airport you will ever attend.

    UNICOM will be monitoring 122.75

Note - there are no wires to fly under! Those were buried years ago...

    Thanks,
    David

Anybody else go? There were two other Taylorcrafts there besides mine but I didn't meet the owners.

It was a great day with lots of airplanes in attendance.

      Thanks,
      David

        David-
Mike Rice and Greg Hughes flew in the white with orange trim Taylorcraft BC12D. We met the 1939 owner, but we were departing and did not catch his name.

We saw your blue and white Taylorcraft and it sure looked sharp- is it the old cream and brown? Pena Bird formerly of Edna, TX (N48928)? I flew that plane in 2008 with Mark Julicher.

I had a great time at the Under the Wire Fly-in... it was a manicured grass strip, and size was just right.

I highly recommend the Louise, TX fly-in for any other tcrafters for next year. I'll be there for sure.

I'm glad it was a good time...
          My cylinders are 70,50,50,38.
Ergo I am not flying at present.
          Best Regards,

            Mike,

I am sorry I didn't to meet you or Greg. I was hanging out all over the place with my wife and daughter - getting snow cones etc! I did look at the white and orange Taylorcraft. It is very nice. It was good to see some more Taylorcrafts in attendance. I was sitting on the south side of the field in the shade behind the Stearmans when yall departed. Looked like a good performing Taylorcraft!

The white and blue one N96907 is mine. I flew it in on Friday evening. No, it is not the one from Edna. I have owned N96907 for about 20 years now. It used to me mainly white with blue leading edges and large N-numbers on the fuse. I rebuilt her over the course of three years and she has been flying in her new threads for a little over a year now. Thanks for the compliment on her. She really flys nice!

If anybody in the area ever needs a good place to fly come on out to Louise. Great strip and Robbie Vajdos the owner is a great guy. Let me know and we can meet up.

Mark - better get to work on that engine. Fying weather is here!
            Thanks,
            David

              Re: Fly-In - Texas

Awwww....Mike didn't let on that he arrived as a back seater in NC47185, a 1943 L3-B in military livery, and departed as the left seater with Greg in his T-Craft. Unfortunately, I left NC43306 "El Comejen" behind at 1T8 for Mark to use so that Mike could get some "stick time". Mark was swamped with work, so we played without him. The Louise, TX event was great...I was there to talk with Gale Haskins who flew his PT-19 to the fly-in...he is currently instructing me in his PT-17 (Boeing E-75). The economy is bad, but the camraderie is still the same! Doc
