  • Brakes - Positive change coming for FAA approvals

    Great News...

Today I got feedback from the FAA telling me we will soon see changes to the approval requirements for Brakes and some other kinds of Major Repairs and Major Alterations. For Taylorcraft owners... this means we should be back on track to install Grove Brakes via field approval in lieu of STC. They say the new revision should be available within 2 weeks...

For a bit more on this... see my blog post here...

Terry i guess my field approval for my grove disk brakes will be good for approved data so people who want to up grade can do the reference 23-27 and use mine as approved date no fuss quick and easy Chuck

Chuck, That would be left up to the individual inspectors within FAA-FSDO... It may not be quite that easy. Some may require some testing to show compliance with the applicable requirements. What matters is that the process will be easier than the STC process.

You play the Lottery here. Approved data is good. Its a start and in SOME areas it actually is worth more than the paper its written on. Would not count on it whatsover in the ens ....STILL never hurts to ASK........

This is good timing for me.
I plan to use Chuck's 337 / Field Approval (I'm not certain of the correct terminology) as supporting evidence in my application to do the same.
Since I'm just about to paint the fuselage frame, I'm hoping to get the approval as part of the "going-back-together" process.

Perhaps it was because my T craft only had 160 hours on it when I bought it (after total re-build) and 120 hours later I sold. Never a minutes problem with the Shinns

This is great news. What would make it even better is if Grove would come out with a BC12X specific brake kit.
