  • A little help on hardware please

In disassembling my BC12D, I noticed that the bolt that goes into the strut at the bottom of the landing gear (the strut that goes up to the bungees) is slightly shorter than the two bolts that are used to attach the gear to the fuselage. I can't seem to locate that bolt on any of my schematics. Can anyone offer any help as to the AN # of this bolt? Thanks.

Measure it. AN bolts are by 16ths in diameter: 3/16ths = AN3
AN bolts are by eighths in length. 7/8" = AN3-7 (the dash number is the length)

It is possible that the bolt is an NAS or MS bolt and those usually have a part number.

Oh, once you get to an inch, an AN bolt is called a 10 and not an 8. So it starts over. ie, an inch and an eighth bolt would be a -11.

The length is the entire shank including the threads (but not the head)

Re: A little help on hardware please

I just pulled mine off of my 1946 BC-12D the other day.
        Mine were AN5-17A

The gear to fuselage ones that you mentioned in your post are AN5-21 on my bird.
