Obama's visit to DesMoines Iowa Sept. 12012

For those intending to fly to Iowa for the Antique Airplane fly in in Blakesburg Iowa or the Osceola Taylorcraft fly in during the Labor day weekend, this is a heads up that the president will be in DesMoines on Sept 1, so be aware there will be a TFR restriction for a 30 mile radius of DesMoines international airport while he is there. You would have a bad day if you fly in the restricted area. There was a report on our local news 2 days ago that while he was in DesMoines last week 2 small planes were intercepted by fighter jets and escorted to land. Ill bet they had wished they had read the Notam.

so by Google earth it is 35 miles from the airport in DesMoines to Osceola so from the south I should be fine.... Flying up from Wichita Ks. Stopped in at the airport in Osceola a couple weeks ago and saw the lounge was under construction. Looks like a great place to have a flyin and I am looking forward to being there.

The last time he was in Des Moines, the TFR extended South to about 1 .5mi North of the Osceola airport which still made the airport operational to the South. Hopefully it will be no farther South than that, this time. At this point it is on Saturday, Sept 1. As I understand it now, Sunday and Monday will be fine. Be sure to check the TFR's As one person learned a Taylorcraft is no match for a F16

We are happy to be hosting the Taylorcraft fly in. We have had serveral calls and reservations made at the Motels. --FYI --AmericInn is almost full. There are still several other motels. Give me a call if you need help in any way 641-414-2571

For anyone flying to Osceola on Saturday Sept 1 (the day before the fly in) aTFR covers our airport that day from 11:30 Am to 5 PM. You will need to arrive before or after that time. The Chariton (CNC)airport is not covered by the TFR . If you would like to land there on Saturday, I will be happy to pick you up in my car. We will return to CNC after 5 PM so you can fly on into Osceola (about 20mi.) Call me at 641-414-2571. Sunday and Monday there are no TFR's, however always check TFRs before you leave! We are expecting a good number of Taylorcraft, The weather looks great! Start making your plans now!

I just read there is a TFR tomorrow Aug. 28 for DesMoines which inclcudes Osceola, make sure you check before flying !

Today, Wednesday, the TFR does not include Osceola Airport (I75). However it isn't far North of the airport. Make sure you come in from the South if you are landing during the time that it is in effect. Check the TFR before flying in, it could change. See you this weekend!

Yep it too late for the corn and beans but it will spoil our plans to do do live lobster and pork loin on the dock this weekend! I know I am never satisfied, I'd bitch if they hung me with a new rope!

Pooooooor Baaabbby spoil a lob dinner....they have changed the forcast here in Wichita Ks from light winds and sunny to Rain from friday night till sunday.... so am hoping for a window to fly through to get there... What is the forcast for Osceola on sun and mon now?

Looks like rain is likely, from hurricane Isac NOAA forcast for Oceola Iowa is 50% chance of rain Saturday with Sunday Clear and in the 80"s Blakesburg Iowa Saturday is 70% chance of rain and clear on Sunday.
