One of my friends just purchased a Taylorcraft L-2 clipwing with O-200 that will stay in my hanger. I will be flying it more than him and have a few questions. Is is ok to fly it with the door off and I prefer to fly it solo from the back seat. The W&B data in the flight manual shows the moment will be in range. Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Re: new to Taylorcraft

Welcome to the forum. Not sure about a clip wing L-2, but L-2's are normally front seat only solo flight. In fact, there should be a placard indicating that on the dash. But, I am not sure about a clip-wing L-2. Not really sure why someone would actually do that to a warbird. Not sure about the door off, either, in the L-2. Hopefully someone with info on clip-wing L-2's can jump in here. Never heard of one myself, though.
    Cheers,
    Marty

        Re: new to Taylorcraft

Its a travesty to the rarity of the type for someone to do that. But, to each his own. Again, hopefully someone with particular knowledge regarding this will jump in.
        Cheers,
        Marty

          Re: new to Taylorcraft

          Jim,
Hello and WELCOME! Sorry for my rather terse response before about the clipped wing L-2. Truly it is great to have you on the forum and look forward to getting to know you and your airplane. This is indeed a good place to learn and share information about Taylorcrafts. We would love to see photos of the airplane. Seriously about flying an L-2 from the back seat (and especially with clipped wings)... be cautious and especially careful at slow speeds. I have never flown an L-2 but as I understand from those who have them... This is NO J-3 Cub. Quite different flying characteristics. The L-2 folks on here will hopefully chime in and give you some good advice. I have one question... is it an L-2A, B, M?? Does if have the observation windows or has it been converted with a fast-back fuselage?
