  • 0235 L2C operating temps

Do any of you run a Tcraft with the 0235 in it? I'm on wheels with my 21b but i'm planning on pursuing paperwork for floats. At 2350 rpm with average AK summer temps (50-70F) leaned to 1250egt and 400 cyl head temp at around 1500 feet msl it seems to hang around 210 degrees plus or minus. That seems a bit hot, but strangely enough it is really cold blooded in the winter. Anybody running an oil cooler? Anybody ever get an oil cooler approved? Tried and failed? Thanks.

I have a 1983 f21A with the 0235 and oil cooler, if the oil temp gage is right it very seldom gets above 160 degrees in the Alabama summer. Mike

Thanks Mike. I assume you have some kind of approval on it and a 337?

I presume you have aready checked baffle seals, mag timing & assured mixture is Rich enough in Cruise.

Until Murphy responds you may want to know that the C-152 uses a L2C with an Oil Cooler.

If you have to go the Field Approval route you should be able to find components & drawings.

Obviously a Taylorcraft System would be easier but components may be harder to locate.

As far as I can tell the oil cooler came on the plane from the factory it has never been overhauled or recovered and that oil cooler sure looks original to me. There is no paper work stating it was added in the logs. Mike

            Re: 0235 L2C operating temps

I have a 1991 F22A with the 0235 L2C engine with a standard factory fitted oil cooler and my oil seldom reaches anywhere near 160 degrees even in a heavy session of circuits "touch and go" in an English summer. This being with oil pressure showing in the middle of the normal reading.

could there be a guage fault giving this apparent high reading?

I'm not sure but I'm going to check. Thanks for the info.
