  • Taylorcraft Sport Plane

Taylorcraft Sport Plane is the name Harry told me they are planning on using.

I have the # 2 slot and I was told mine will be started next week, and looks like the wing tanks(dual 12 gal) have been approved also. Plus, yes they are building NEW Cont. O200, 100 hp engines and these will be in the Sport Plane, with dual mechanical brakes;basic instruments and one color paint job. Stripes or trim are extra.

I woiuld have had the #1 slot, but one fellow had ordered an F-19
and changed to the Sport. Smart move I say. No more flight Physicals for me either. Still current on my CFI; so I will be able to give primary training to anyone want a Sport License. So for I have my Grand Son and Son In Law; Plus I am giving some instrumet training to one, while my medical is still good. Don't know how that will play out with the Driver's License thing.

Have heard that the SPORT catagory has requirements that limit the use to 25mi. radius.

Landinging only at home based field.

Cross country flights must be applied for and approved one year
    in advance, prior to flight!

    Is this a false rumor?

      Kelso,WA,

      David,

While I'm certainly not an expert on the subject of the new Sport Pilot ruling (nor is anyone, as it is a continually evolving process), I believe you have confused the restrictions of the old Recreational Pilot's license. If I understand correctly, the new Sport Pilot rule allows unlimited day VFR flight to anywhere in the country. The exceptions I am aware of, would be to get a log book endorsement for flight into controlled airspace (excluding class B) and another for night flight, if it's even allowed.

        No arbitrary maximum distance limitation...

Day VFR only. NO NIGHT and NO VFR on Top

Land at any public use airport/airfield you want, other than airports within class B, C or D airspace or in other airspace with an operational control tower. In order to operate under the SPC in Class B, C, or D you need additional training and a logbook endorsement for you, along with the required equipment under Part 91 rules in the aircraft.

Bogus rumor on cross country...sounds like a confusion of the cross-border flight plan/ADCUS fiasco for non-electric aircraft without transponders.
