I received this from AOPA regarding a House Bill to increase our fees. Being proud of the fact we are one of the most corrupt states I am sure you will appreciate the fact Illinois wants more of your money to NOT support aviation in Illinois. Unbelievable...another democrat digging around in our pockets.
Illinois House Bill 4444 would double the fees you pay to register your aircraft and pilot certificate with the State. While the increase is relatively small, it is important to remember Illinois’ aircraft owners and pilots pay some of the highest levels of taxation across the country. In some communities in the State, sales or use taxes exceed 10% of the aircraft’s value. Further, aviation fuel taxes are the sixth highest in the nation with a 6% sales tax and $0.003 per gallon excise tax. Unfortunately, none of this existing sales or fuel tax revenue is directly reinvested in the state aviation system and could easily be used to support the Aeronautics Division in lieu of these fee increases. The bill will be heard before the Illinois House of Representatives Transportation Regulation, Roads, and Bridges Committee on Tuesday, February 21, 2012.
Please contact Representative Rich Brauer, who is a member of the Committee, at (217) 782-0053 and [email protected] to register your opposition to the fee increases. Identify yourself as a resident of the district and politely request their opposition to the fee increases contained in House Bill 4444 which will:
Add additional tax liability to an already heavily taxed general aviation industry in Illinois.
Generate minimal revenue for the State while jeopardizing the continued economic contribution of the $6 billion Illinois general aviation industry.
Your fellow pilots are counting on you to you contact your Representative quickly and urge him to oppose the fee increases contained in House Bill 4444 to ensure the continued vitality of the Illinois general aviation industry.
Thank you.
